THE SRI LANKAN GOVERNMENT RECOGNIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DIAGNOSIS FOR CHILDREN LIVING WITH NON-PROGRESSIVE DISABILITIES.

Early diagnosis allows for earlier treatment of the disability and can also help with a child’s self-esteem and confidence as well as provide societal/family awareness and education regarding disabilities. Early diagnosis and treatment will equip families with the resources and education to empower their children to succeed.

Planning For Early Diagnosis And Intervention Is Resource Intensive, Requiring Formal Screening By A Medical Professional.

Recognizing the importance of early disability diagnosis, the Sri Lankan government introduced an initiative to provide free diagnosis of children with disabilities in areas of low medical resources by government-funded doctors. SFC plans to supplement this initiative at selected sites and commits to provide free-of-charge therapy treatment to children at SFC-founded treatment centres run by an SFC-appointed Clinic Manager. SFC will work with select licensed volunteer doctors to identify appropriately credentialed and experienced occupational therapists, physiotherapist and speech therapists, whose fees will be paid for by SFC.

SFC Will Ensure That Therapy Is Provided To Children At No Charge At These Treatment Centre

Therapy sessions will last 45 minutes to one hour and will be tailored to the specific needs of the child.
